What is net zero?
Put simply, net zero means cutting carbon emissions to a small amount of residual emissions that can be absorbed and durably stored by nature and other carbon dioxide removal measures, leaving zero in the atmosphere.
Why is net zero important?
The science shows clearly that in order to avert the worst impacts of climate change and preserve a livable planet, global temperature increase needs to be limited to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Currently, the Earth is already about 1.2°C warmer than it was in the late 1800s, and emissions continue to rise. To keep global warming to no more than 1.5°C – as called for in the Paris Agreement – emissions need to be reduced by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.
How can net zero be achieved?
Transitioning to a net-zero world is one of the greatest challenges humankind has faced. It calls for nothing less than a complete transformation of how we produce, consume, and move about. The energy sector is the source of around three-quarters of greenhouse gas emissions today and holds the key to averting the worst effects of climate change. Replacing polluting coal, gas and oil-fired power with energy from renewable sources, such as wind or solar, would dramatically reduce carbon emissions.
#1 Influencing climate change
At ZE Global, combating climate change is a top priority. We take a proactive approach by integrating energy management and carbon reduction strategies into our operations. Our in-house team collaborates with the ‘Net Zero Accelerator’ to ensure we meet stringent environmental standards. We aim for net zero emissions by reducing our
carbon footprint and offsetting any residual emissions through innovative solutions.
We actively promote sustainable transport by encouraging employees to walk, cycle, or use public transport to reduce emissions. Our fleet consists of electric and hybrid vehicles, with plans to fully transition to electric as part of our ongoing sustainability efforts. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels, we are doing our part to achieve a greener, more sustainable future.
#2 Sustainable fleet management
Since 2018, ZE Global has been transitioning its fleet from carbon-fuel vehicles to electric and hybrid alternatives. Currently, we operate a fleet of 20 vehicles that meet Euro 6 emissions standards. We closely monitor vehicle emissions and continually seek opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Our goal is to achieve a fully electric fleet soon, further minimizing our carbon footprint.
#3 Sustainable IT and uniform recycling
ZE Global prioritises sustainability in every facet of our operations, including IT and uniform management. We recycle and repurpose IT equipment, purchasing refurbished devices where possible to reduce waste. Our uniform recycling program, in partnership with local businesses, allows us to repurpose 35% of our uniforms, significantly reducing landfill waste.
#4 Waste recycling
Our commitment to sustainability extends to waste management. ZE Global maintains a 95% recycling rate at our Head Office and a 75% rate across our main sites. We actively reduce paper and cardboard waste, striving for a paper-free environment by utilizing digital communication methods wherever possible. These initiatives are designed to minimize our environmental impact and contribute to the preservation of natural resources.
